CanoScan 8800F Film Scanner User Reviews:
|
Customer Rating: Summary: CanoScan 8800F Comment: This is a really good scanner as it should be at the price. The bundled software with it works well and is easy to use. I bought the scanner bundled with a Belkin USB lead which is completely unneccessary as one is included with the Canon. Rather a sneaky sales trick that.
Customer Rating: Summary: A lot to take in Comment: Perhaps I was expecting miracles, but I am rather disappointed. All I wanted was a device that I could plug in and use (without hours of learning) to scan in documents and slides, and save them for later use. Two months on, I am still struggling with the bundled software and all the instruction manuals - which inevitably are on disc, not hard copy. I think I've mastered copying and printing a document and this works quite well; however, saving a scanned item as a picture for inclusion in another document has not worked too well. The quality of scanned slides is also disappointing - the end results are not a patch on the originals. Still, I'll keep working on it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Comment: Bear in mind for scanning film that this scanner can only get 1600dpi of detail from the film, scanning at any higher resolution will only add size to your file, no more detail. Most film holds about 2500-3000dpi of detail, so this scanner still misses a lot. Therefore your 35mm film/slides can only be about 2-3 megapixels.
Customer Rating: Summary: scanner Comment: A first class product that does what it says. I would have liked to know before purchase, that optical character recognition software is included.
Customer Rating: Summary: Well Worth the Money Comment: The purchase of this top end scanner was prompted by requiring to archive around 1000 slide transparencies and not waste large amounts of time getting second best.
The results have been good and being able to scan 4 slides at once. The latest Cannon 64 bit driver interface for Windows 7 were installed together with the bundled photo processing applications. In short, these were not good enough for when trying to colour correct old slides so I used PSP 12 and it's multiplicity of options to get satisfactory results.
Part of the problem was the Agfa transparencies which always did have a bit of a blue cast but this had increased enormously with age. Kodak ones had survived much better and the bundled applications would have been OK for these. I have also scanned some colour negatives and the results were very impressive.
On scanning good quality colour photographs, the quality was amazing in terms of true colour reproduction. Scanning is almost instant as LED's are use for the light source.
The scanner is well worth 5 stars but the processing applications only 3. The Cannon drivers and interface is included in the 5 stars but the latest ones had to be downloaded
