PURE EVOKE Flow Portable Digital, FM & Internet Radio User Reviews:

Customer Rating: Summary: Flow fantastic Comment: Bought this unit in Jan 09 after looking for a DAB/Internet radio with internet access to access NAS server on home network. This does it all - Lounge portal is ok but hoping it will improve more over time. Player has great sound even with just one speaker. access to networked stored music library was a doddle and connects every time.. Thousands of great international radio station give access to great tunes I wouldnt have heard any other way from all over the world. Use this as a clock radio, but with the battery pack often simply unplug and carry all around the house.
would highly recommend Pure really seem to know what they are doing. Looking forward to the release of their Sirocco 550 later in the year for the living room.
Customer Rating: Summary: Style over substance Comment: A lot has already been written so I will get to the point; we have just sent back our third of these, this time to Amazon for a refund. Same problem as most others, the screen just goes blank and stops working. If you Google Pure Evoke Flow and display you will find many forum discussions on the subject. The radio is also quite overly complicated to use and the touch sensitive buttons are either too sensitive or not sensitive at all. It's a shame, as we thought Pure were supposed to be the best, but I'd definitely give this one a miss if I were you. We're going for the Roberts instead which does not seem to have the same problems.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works really well Comment: Got this last week and I have had time to play with DAB, FM and Internet mode. I haven't tried the rest of the functions available (e.g. media player or the AUX connection) so I cannot comment on these yet but as far as radio goes; it is brilliant and relativelly easy to use. The unit itself looks great and the display is neat. Sound wise and considering its size it is pretty good, WIFI reception surprisingly good -- highly recommneded.
You can get this device pretty cheaply nowadays.. got mine for £80!!!!!
ps: there is one negative; the radio's portal is a bit lame and amateurish but apart from that I can't realy fault it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Close but no Cigar Comment: In keeping with the other reviews I have to confess that the usability of this device is poor at best. Its ability to play the DAB radio and Internet radio is perfectly acceptable however, the cost of this machine would suggest that the media streaming aspect is, rightly, it's main purpose. To that end this machine is a waste of time. It's user interface almost prevents effective selection of items of music, whether searching, scrolling by artist or track. The wi-fi continually "loses" the connection and struggles to cope with my wi-fi extender (I have to turn this off to get the Flow to connect, all other wireless devices are fine). When the wi-fi is working the media player seem to lose the server and/or struggles to find any music. The pure online support team suggested that my simple NAS drive (Maxtor SS2) wasn't up to the job and I need a good home server, preferably a Linus based device or similar. So, I now have a synology DS209 2TB costing nearly £300 pounds serving my Squeezebox & Evoke. The squeezebox, as before, works perfectly but the Evoke has exactly the same problems as before.
Another gripe is that when Pure send firmware updates they lock the machine up until the update is loaded, you have no choice to defer or reject, you switch your radio on for a few minutes only to get silence for 15 minutes while the update gets priority, when all you wanted was music. In the year that I have owned this Radio, there have been many updates but there have been no perceptible improvements.
I think my rating of 2 stars is probably over generous, but at least the radio looks good. Pure may produce good DAB radios but their streaming product is amateurish at best. Wish I had stuck with Logitec.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not for ".Oldies" Comment: Although the Pure evoke is an excellent radio I dont think it wss designed for my generation,I am 78 years old.Having downloaded the Pure instuction manual I am still having difficulties and cannot get used to the touch pads.Possibly I should
have gone into various shops to see if there was one I thought I could use.
Best wishes
